Larry has strong ties to Fremont and has been involved in helping our children, teachers and schools for the past 20 years.

     Larry Sweeney has proudly served on the Fremont School Board for the past four years.
     Larry is the current Board President, after having served as Vice-President and Clerk of the Board. He is also the Board’s representative to the Mission Valley ROP, where he is the current Vice President.
     Larry and his wife Teresa have been married for 27 years and have lived in Fremont the past 23 years All of their four children have attended Fremont’s public schools Kindergarten through 12th grade. Alicia graduated from Washington High School, then graduated from the University of California at Berkeley earning a BA in English. She will earn her Masters in May of 2007. Alicia is married to Kevin Floyd a pilot in the United States Air Force. Christina graduated from Washington High School, and went on to earn her BS in Political Science at Santa Clara University. Christina is currently pursuing her Master’s degree. Lawrence III graduated from Washington High School in 2006 and is a student at Ohlone. Jonathan is currently a sophomore at American High School.
     Before being elected to the Board, Larry had been appointed by the Board to serve on the first Citizen’s Bond Oversight Committee as well as to the Instructional Equity Commission. Larry was an active volunteer in the successful effort to pass the $157,000,000 Health and Safety Bond that benefits all of our students as well as our entire community. 
     Always active in the schools of his children, Larry was elected to represent parents on the School Site Councils at Patterson Elementary (9 years, chair 3 years), Thornton Junior High (2 years), and Washington High School (4 years, chair 1 year).
     An active supporter of PTA, Larry served as a PTA President at Patterson for 4 years.
     Larry has also been very active as a parent and supporter of many youth sports programs including Little Leagues, CYO Basketball, football, and high school track, swimming, cross-country, golf, tennis and more.
     Larry is 4th generation born in San Francisco, raised in San Mateo and earned his BS from San Jose State University.
     Larry’s wife Teresa was raised in Fremont and attended Irvington High School. Her parents, Ernest and Delia Garcia still live in the same home in Sundale where they raised their family. Teresa earned her BA from San Jose State University as well as her California Teaching Credential.
     Larry is a recruiting consultant partnering with many of Silicon Valley’s most successful companies as they search to find the most educated and qualified people to lead their teams. Larry has worked with industry leaders such as Google, Apple, Intuit, nVIDIA, GTE, and General Dynamics. Each and every day, Larry sees the value of a strong and robust education.
